R-Team Robotics will be hosting the 2018 Tucson Mech Brawl, Saturday, December 15th, 2018 (may spill into Sunday as well). Its a low key event. We set up the arena in my garage (its a tight fit but we manage), hold a mini competition, try out any new rules, have a general good time, etc.. We'll be generally following the Robogames 2018 Ruleset.

There's an open invitation to anyone else out there with a Mech to join us as well for the Brawl. Tucson is generally nice in December. We can probably also come up with free room & board (for at least a few). If interested, post here or send me an email/message.

There's also a rumor going around, as has been mentioned elsewhere on the forums, that Robogames 2019 has been cancelled. We haven't been told (or seen) anything official yet on this, but tend to think it might be true. We're working on alternatives for 2019... if anyone has any ideas, please bring them up.

That sounds awesome! Maybe even enough to make a push for getting a working 'mech back ...

    Gertlex,

We will probably do another Mech Brawl 2019 that you could shoot for. Also looking into another alternative to Robogames for 2019.

I'm not going to be able to make December, but would be up for coming in the spring if you pull together something!

I was just about to start working on my next design with Robogames in mind (nevermind that, I guess), so I also hope to have something ready in the spring. If not, I'll keep next December in mind.

Did the Tucson gang host a Mech Brawl 2019? I was hoping to hear about it as I didn’t think I could make it this year. So did the team meet up?

    Re: 2018 Tucson Mech Brawl

Yes. We did hold a Mech Brawl in Dec. of 2019. Meant to post some pics of the event either here or on instagram... but slipped my mind and never got to it, but still might.

For the Mech Brawl for 2019, we moved out of my garage and into a rented (for free) room at a local library. It was a really convenient setup. Almost as if the room was made for us.. a large high ceiling conference room for the Arena with tables/outlets around the periphery for the competitors to work at. Even had a few library patrons wander in now and again to observe. For the minimal effort required, we'll definitely be holding additional "Brawls" there again. We've discussed potentially holding another one in March.

As for the Main Event in 2020, we're in a bit of a limbo. With the passing of Robogames and Bay Area Maker Faire, not sure what our venue will be? (Still hoping Maker Faire re-emerges sometime in the future as that was a lot of fun). We've attempted to contact the Phoenix comicon but haven't heard anything back from them. We're open to suggestions, if anyone has any. At a minimum we will be holding local Tucson Mech Brawls if anyone is interested.. and we can announce the dates or even schedule them around others availability.

I was trying to get Onyx back up to snuff (with the new feeder design and the new PCB) but the coolant pump on the mill failed and apparently spare parts are only found in some untracked container in the middle of the pacific ...

While Bay Area Maker Faire doesn't seem to be happening again, have you looked at Gilroy Maker Faire? It's definitely smaller and doesn't get as much attention. However, it may get more attendance this year in the absence of the BA Maker Faire. Keep us posted if you plan a big event in Tucson as well, I'm sure many competitors outside the area would love to attend given enough notice to plan for the trip.
