    Storm Jr Outdoor Tracked Vehicle

I am working on a new robot based on the Lynx tracks for outdoor use.

Robot is approximately 20"x13.5"x7". Totally enclosed electronics bay, which can be sealed from things like rain and dust.

Robot does not have the top plate shown, as it covers everything that is exposed.

    Here are some design pictures:

I will be building this shortly, as soon as I get quotes back from the laser cutters.

    Well, built it....
Looks like it handles the snow and ice and outside well enough. Snow and melt wasn't getting into the electronics bay, so I think that part works.

However, the motors are definitely undersized... They had a very hard time on the carpet turning. (using the banebots 380 gearbox series.) In the outside test, one of the motors completely blew up (smoke flooded the motor compartment). so, the test didn't last long.

Now, I am not sure if the motor was defective before I got it, as it was REALLY hard to turn. (as in it took all my strength almost to turn the output shaft. I suspect that there was some contaminant in the gearbox that was causing the issue, however I couldn't check as I didn't have the proper screw driver to open the gearbox. (Banebots uses some weird screw size, it seemed to be a #1 head but the hole for the screw driver only accepted a #0 screwdriver.) The other motor didn't have this issue. I'll have to take the tank apart after its dry later and figure out if the motor I think had a manufacturing fault actually was the one to fail.

    Pictures later.

    Pretty nice project!

I too would like to see some pictures of it in action, that is if you get the motor to get to work.

Sorry to hear about the motor dilemma.
I am sitting on the edge of my seat to see the pictures

That thing is awesome. Did you cut the panels yourself? How?

Hehe, not at all. I cut holes for the Sabertooth, thats all. :P

I can't cut a straight line to save my life. So, anything that I do that entails sheets of plastic, I send out to get lasercut. (The entire chassis is made from .118" polycarbonate. You can probably see the burn marks from the laser in the photos. It gives the edges that appear "brownish".)

Very cool! This looks more awesome every time I look at the pictures.
Funny how a "blown motor" at the drag strip is cool, but a "blown motor" on a bot is, well, bad.
Are you at liberty to share your goal for this bad @ss bot?
