    The 0/16/16 controller board specs say that it can support switching up to 30VDC at up to 2 Amps.

    ??

    Now, does this mean that it supports switching up to 30VDC at up to 2 Amps per channel or 2 Amps combined across all channels.

    ??

    An accurate answer is needed b/c i plan on buying one of these in the near future to control the 16 fans on my water cooling beast that is about 3 months away from completion.

    each fan is .31 Amps, so 16 running 7 at once would blow the board. that would be about 100 bucks down the drain

    OK, i read up some more.... other people have asked similar questions regarding pumps and one response was that he should get opto-isolato(s)... i am a noob to elec. engineering. so now my new question is.....

    ??

    Cam someone point me to the exact
    opto-isolator i would need.... i assume it would need to be able to handle 2 Amps Peak... and i would perfer it not to be in board mountable form...possibly on a wire of some sort... i am trying to make this simple for myself.. thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the forum!

    You're not going to find what you're looking for in "some sort of wire"... An opto-coupler is a chip. You're looking for seven of them.

    If you don't already have the Phidgets, I'd suggest one of these: http://www.futurlec.com/SSRAC.shtml

    Or one of these: http://www.futurlec.com/DC_Opto_Output_8.shtml (Note: You'd need to run the fans at 24vDC, not 30vDC)

    If you want to run 12vDC, one of these would work: http://www.futurlec.com/Relay_8.shtml

    With any of these solutions, the phidgets (or the digital output from most any MCU) is still required.

    Yeah I certainly didn't state it would be the most cost effective method, but some people prefer the ease of use of Phidgets. /shrug

    It would be a plug and play solution, but you pay for the convenience.

    i am already dropping 5 grand on the pc... an extra 150 is no problem

    (The MB already has a built in water cooling system for NB/SB chip set)

    4x Koolance PMP-450 Water circulation pumps
    4x Koolance TNK-240 Water reservoirs
    4x Custom design water flow switches to open a channel between each pump as a backup in case a pump fails.
    4x Koolance HX-1320 Quad 120 MM Radiators
    18x Koolance FAN-12025LED (4 per HX-1320 and 2 for extra circulation based on the HX-1320 layout i am using)

    Nice rig =)

    I used to build competitively for 3dmark scores, was in the top 20 globally back in 03. Built my share of custom dual cascading phase change systems, as well as dozens of custom watercooling rigs. Running a pretty basic setup now with half inch ID Tygon tubing, Danger Den blocks, 240mm quad fan radiator and a 12v industrial pump on a Xeon 3060. 2.4/1066 OC'd to 3.6/1600 for everyday use, can bump it up to close to 4ghz for benching.

    i am doing this more to beat a friend who doesnt know i entered the contest...
    if i have enough time i also plan on dropping in a TEC between the CPU and the waterblock.
