Depends on what you're planning to make with it. If you're just prototyping buy the cheap proto stuff. If you're after finished parts, it still depends on what your goal is.

That said, I've used Delrin often, as well as Teflon blocks.

HDPE unless your laser cutting or using a waterbed, in which case they will melt.

I'm a big fan of expanded PVC sheets, they are cheap, lightweight and easy to work with. Works great for flat things like robot decks and arms and small brackets. You can cut them with just about anything - coping saw, bandsaw, etc. A 12"x12" sheet 1/4 thick is about $3, available in many colors. I've attached a pic of one of my robots that uses EPVC and metal standoffs for the entire frame.

I should have also pointed out that you can more complex with EPVC to make things like boxes and fully contained bots - I especially like to combine EPVC with those 1/4" milled aluminum bars from Lynxmotion to make 90 degree corners - http://www.lynxmotion.com/Product.as...2&CategoryID=6

im making a robotic hand with plasic. Ill be using plastic rod for the fingers and plate for the palm. i will be milling the finger joints with a ( end bit). The use of the hand is for picking up...like a pop can and so..lol
