    NON-Biped Adult-Sized Humanoid

I'm building a non-biped adult-sized humanoid robot with the ability to completely bend over a hospital bed or a dinning table without falling over and actually kiss someone on the forehead. The robot will be ready in a few weeks. Although it's not a bi-ped it has an articulated spine' and it's over 6feet tall. It has a terminator type appearance.

I was wondering if anyone has already built a robot with this ability.

You make a good point Andrew. I wanted to build something which could interact on a very personal level with hospital patients or restaurant patronts. I followed your articles in Servo Magazine and got the idea of building the ultimate Virtural Presence Robot. I do remember you saying that it scared family members .

Maybe I'll change the design of the face.

There is a point in which Robots turn from cute to scary.. and it's a very fine line. The more human they look the scarier the are until we reach a point in which they can't really be distinguesd from a human. It's called the "uncanny valley", you man want to research the social aspect of this and see what you can find. Here is a link to some info on it.

Hi Conner, thanks for the link. Great site!

I built this robot in response to Japan's insatiable appetite for a humanoid robot capable of giving care to its rapidly aging population.

While I was in the final stages of completing the robot , I remember getting an strange feeling going up and down my spine. Now I'm use to it. Now I'm just in awe. I'm hoping the general public will be comfortable with it as well.

I'm sure we'd appreciate more what you're talking about if you were to post pictures and video.

    Re: NON-Biped Adult-Sized Humanoid

I have earlier photos and will post them over the weekend if not sooner .I have also taken steps to set up a web site, so I am going to be quite busy.

You have to understand that I am seeking a patent on the bottom part of the humanoid, because I believe it will change the direction of non -bipeds.

Once you've been issued a filing number it's all good anyway, disclosure-wise. At that point priority is protected... (I've done way too many dozens of them...)

Or just throw a black cloth or mask over the base - that's not the part we're having trouble visualizing anyway

But yeah, we'll definitely wait for your earlier photos.
