Thread: More Mule then Rover?

    Re: More Mule then Rover?

with all the snow and Ice we've had so far this year I had to put
something together for more power. 6hp engine runs the alternator good, just very noisy.

That looks like a monster :-)
What poor lawn tractor had to donate its heart like that?

jwatte, even better 6hp for $20 on facebook marketplace, came from pressure washer with bad pump.

only has pull start so can't see it surviving the winter.

Is that an attempt to add electric start to the little 160~200cc Honda GCV? Or did you lose yet another wheel due to shaft shearing apart?

I'm kinda wondering what would be necessary to better silence the exhaust of a GCV engine. I still have not built an electric alternative to my >12 year old Honda/Craftsman lawnmower, and it has always been annoyingly loud even with earplugs.

tician, no that image was put there by mistake.

a few years ago I went to 1" shafts, and 1" ID hubs, I have not had any 1" shaft failures yet.(sweet)

I'm kinda wondering what would be necessary to better silence the exhaust of a GCV engine.
I've tried a few things(enclose the engine, add mufflers and used high temp insolation) but, was still
too noisy for me. I hope to have a fix by next winter.

last spring a made a e-bike, then I made a few 24v lipo battery packs, I may look at lipo packs for the mule.

    the kickstand was electric(linear actuator)
and backup camera display on the handlebars
motor on both wheels, front motor geared for hill climbing, back motor geared to street(25mph).
used freewheel sprockets on both so could switch back and forth on the fly.
very fun to ride and could even do some work.

    Re: More Mule then Rover?

the bucket worked sweet last few winters so I'm not making any big changes.

first small change- to help put more weight on the bucket for getting ice off the road
I added dead weight to the front of the mule, this winter I'm replacing the dead weight
    with a few batteries.

I also found a new 8hp briggs engine with a .5amp alternator and electric start.

    Re: More Mule then Rover?

because things are slow here on this forum, I'm going to think out loud.

While I love the new briggs engine, I had to wonder when I seen the starter motor
they used.(very small in my thinking), and when it failed after only 20 starts and on
top of that it's going to cost $180usd to replace.

because I have a few other Briggs engines with bigger starter motors($40usd to replace)
I'm going to try and use that motor to start the new engine.
