RX-28 Darwin OP Based Mech: Tychus

A few weeks ago I began work on a new biped mech: Tychus

    Specs:
    Actuators: 21 DOF, 16 RX-28, 5 RX-24F
    Processing: 1.6Ghz Fit-PC2I
Brains: Darwin OP based gait's and IK
    Board: CM700
Sensors: Accelerometer and Gyro for dynamic balancing (maybe)
    Camera: USB Webcam, undecided
    Weaponry: 1 Chain-gun, 1 Chainsaw (!)
Framework: Mostly custom designed Aluminum frames/brackets
Armor: 3d printed shells (Work in progress)
    Battery: 4s 2100mAh Thunderpower LiPo
    Height: 16"
    Weight: 7 lbs / 3.2KG

To continue with the Starcraft theme of my last mech (see Immortal) I have decided to base this somewhat on Tychus J. Findlay, from starcraft 2 (See: Video). Tychus has decided that one weapon wasn't enough, and replaced his left arm with a working chainsaw, why you may ask? Because he is Tychus, that's why.

    Mechanical Design (Without armor):

    Layout of the brackets/frames:

Chainsaw 3d Print (without chain guide / Motor):

    More updates to come!

    It's got chains!?!?

Kinky. Needs some boots, while you're at it.

Do you already have the RX-28 ? If not you might consider the MX-28 instead for higher resolution and reliability.

Yeah I already have the RX-28's, otherwise I would have gone the MX-28 most likely. They do allow for more torque though, which will be handy because I will weigh more then Darwin.

Got the laser cut parts in today! I ordered some extras.

Here are some of the first parts i bent up. Not all of them were a success because I do not have a back gauge on my little brake.

Do you mind telling us how much an order of that size cost? Total pieces made? And you did for you?

Parts look great by the way.

Order cost is dependent on lots of things, if you can cut everything on the same sheet of material costs go down a lot, the less operations they need to do to your parts the less it costs as well. I opted to do all the bending myself rather then having them do it, it will probably take me like 8-10 hours to actually bend everything, but it saved me a few hours of shop rate. I got them made at Fox Valley Metal Tech - www.fvmt.com

Got most of it assembled now. Still a lot of work to do though.

This beast is looking good... and should give Giger a run for "bad-ass biped" or some such.

Giger, Tychus, Hikari, Rebel's Mech, Manny's mech......

We might have a single biped competing this year! For at least one match!
