cheap and easy mech or fighting robot

After joining this forum for a current project I'm working on to get some help on it I've looked threw a lot of the mech forums. Looking in to I'm seeing that it's not the cheapest hobby. I just had a few questions on this. What would be a good robot idea to start with? Where are some web sites that I can go to for the best price on parts? I have a arduino uno, and an arduino mega soon, will these work for controlling the robot? And any advice for some one starting in this field?
