Hey guys,
Trying to design a turret but it needs to fit in a certain space. I was wondering if anyone happens to have the overall LxWxH of the actual turret mechanism for any of the more common models? Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Do you mean the gearbox? You might ask Elaughlin, I know he had modeled the AEG at one point.
Oh, sorry, I meant the versions made for RC tanks.
Please tell me it's not for a mech.
Same answer though, ask Elaughlin. He is the gatekeeper of all things 3D.
Ummm.. well, though i will admit i have no idea why it would matter, or why you would want to know if it is for a mech, i guess you can rest easy, for it is indeed not for a mech. Ill ask that guy i guess. Thanks....
I would hazard a guess, that Tybs response was due to the fact that year one of Mech WarFare we all used Tank Guns. They looked like a useable and inexpensive way of getting the job done. While they worked, they proved to be under powered, slow shooting, and jammed a lot. By year two, we had all moved to the hacked "Defender" type of gun. Much better.
Now we're using AEG's.. things are evolving.
This is a comparison of the mechanism's we used previously. No measurements, and I no longer have the guns, but the barrels are about 4-4.5 in. long as a point of reference.
If your purpose for using tank guns is aesthetics, more than the ability to put out a good rate of firepower, they may be the answer.

Fair enough. Appreciate the info, because I was actually thinking about getting one for my hexapod down the road, but that wasn't why I was posting. I only posted in this section because I knew the mech warfare guys had used them. I'll explain myself: One of my other hobbies, in addition to robotics is airsoft. Not the cheap $200 guns mind you, but the custom built 1600 RPM full metal dealies. We play airsoft in much the same way as people play paintball.
Anyway, I dug out my old NES a few days ago and was dismayed to learn that the zapper gun doesn't work with modern LCD TVs. So I started thinking to myself, man would it be cool if I could modify the zapper to shoot airsoft.
It would never be useful in a game or anything, but the lol factor would be off the chart. Now the gun obviously wouldn't fit any gearbox from my AEGs, and a retrofit from a gas gun is also out of the question, but then I remembered those tank turrets. There is a possibility that I may be able to make one of those fit, but I really need accurate dimensions of the whole unit in order to fit in the housing of the zapper. Of course, if that doesn't pan out, there's always the high powered laser option...
