    Travidius Lives

This is my latest Build his name is Travidius. Modified Bioloid , Roboard running win xp , usb 2 cam, cm-510 I can control the bot over my wifi. Working on custom motion and task files. Future upgrades Dynamixel AX-18A in legs, Fit PC running ubuntu Linux , Darwin Op. He still needs work, Cam is not mounted and I need to drill a few holes to solve some fastening alignment issues.

Here is a picture of me loged into the robot on my pc.

Im still not done, but have decided that im going to get rid of the roboard and go with one of my earlier ideas of using a smartphone to handle video and ditch wifi control for Zigbee. I have several android devices up for the job. Think about it a smartphone has everything you need right there a camera, speaker, mic, its own power source, easy to charge. Last year I built a robot with 2 cameras on it one was on an android phone the other was a usb camera to the roboard and I vewed the output from the phone on my pc, the ap i used was called droid cam it works great. Also a smartphone has gps, accelerometer, gyro etc etc, . So with that tonight the roboard is going to come off and I am going to explore more smartphone alternatives.

This was the robot using the droid and usb cam :

Interesting video. Two nits to pick:
    1) I want more robot and less title text!
    2) The plural of Robot is "Robots" (no apostrophe)

Could you tell us how much did you spend on CNC'ed parts?
and what about the weight, did you get lighter parts(frame) using aluminium?

The parts are 063 ga. 5052 brushed aluminum, It cost me around $260 not counting shipping, I did order a few extra parts so you can do it for less. As far as weight I did not weigh before and after so I can not give and exact number, but he seems lighter (could just be my imagination)

    Upgrades

Ordered some parts from the Trossen shop , I am very happy with the results. Upgraded to a CM-700 controller and am very satisfied with it. Replaced the AX-12 knee servos with Rx-24f, robotis brackets, ABS plastic to protect the cm-700 Wrote a new Task file. I worked on this thing till 6am , Am up and running walking great. As budget allows I will get 8 more rx-24f dynamixels for the legs, and ax 18's for the arms. here are a few pics of the build, Still need to neaten up the wires and get the gyro back online just need to figure the port orientation out on the cm-700 will post a walking video later on. Here are a few pics of the build and a short vid.

Looking good so far Ron. Looks like the cm-700 has a nice form factor for this application.

Thank you. Yes I am liking the CM-700 a lot it seems a lot faster than my cm-510 when loading and reading motion files and less quirky.
