Just wrapped up the prototype of our new revision crawler. I have a hexapod version of the same design, it's just not very pretty right now. We will be running a special promotion for owners of the rev 1.0 phantomx crawlers, so that they can pick up an upgrade hardware pack at a deep discount.

Looks great, reminds me a bit of IW's legs.

Yep. I designed the original PhantomX crawlers almost 3 years ago, learned a few things since then and decided to implement them along with the updates. Biggest practical change is that the legs can now be removed without disassembling the body.

This was super neat to see in person last week...

That said, I neglected to ask then: what's up with the super solid tip of the feet? Was that something that's failed on previous iterations? Or is there no particular rhyme/reason to that bit of design?

I'm holding my credit card up to the screen in hopes that the magical transaction fairies take a pre-order but I'm having no luck.

Cool! When I switched from an ABS prototype with cut corners to an aluminum base plate on mine, I also noticed that getting the legs off was a PITA when the servo was fully surrounded by a frame. My solution was to screw a full frame adapter into the servo, and the frame plate into the adapter. This gave me some more height between base plates, which was good for my needs, but is more parts (and probably weight) than leaving the hips open-framed.
