  1. Cameras: State of the Art 01/2014

What is the "State of the Art" for FPV cameras for Mech Warfare starting 2014?

I want to start a discussion regarding the solutions for all levels of sophistication. From hobbyist to full-embedded-systems-nerd. Recipes, links, how-tos, etc, all welcome!

Since I haven't taken the plunge yet, I don't have much to offer. I can, however, help anyone interested in an opensource, diy, embedded linux recipe. I have just about every embedded linux platform known to man and can offer observations, opinions, and caveats.

I use a 5.8 GHz 200 mW transmitter/receiver combo from HobbyKing, and a small CCD from the same place. Their site is currently down, so no links. Also, HobbyKing -- bleh.
    I also use a 7" 1200x800 pixel display from adafruit: http://www.adafruit.com/products/1033
(Although the NTSC version for half the price would be sufficient.)

The idea is to use a Raspberry Pi in my control setup, and use a EZCAP to merge video with digital read-outs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/161051656870?lpid=82

    T
rossen was going to start carrying a ready-matched system of camera, transmitter, receiver, and display, although I haven't yet seen it in the store (maybe I'm just blind, though.)

My previous solution was an onboard computer, and a USB webcam (I used a Microsoft LifeCam) and sending the data over a custom UDP protocol over WiFi. I had to use the custom protocol to compress the data enough, and to drop frames in times of congestion rather than stalling the display, like all TCP-based camera streaming does.

I use a Raspberry Pi overclocked to 700 MHz with a Xbox Live Vision webcam using Mjpg-Streamer to host a webpage for it to stream the video.
