Thanks Kurt! I would place an order too. Would you mind start sharing it on OSH Park too? Well if not, I'm using the files. Btw, what software do you recommend to read the files? I found some online gerber file reader though.

Re: PhantomX using a Teensy 3.1

    Thanks Kåre,

I can share it up there, I thought I might wait until I got the batch back and make sure I did not completely ... it up. To order your own from there: http://www.oshpark.com/ you simply click on the getting started button. It will ask for a file, which you should be able to pass it the zip file (you can remove all of the stuff from the sub-directory). The file names in the top directory match their specifications: http://www.oshpark.com/guidelines. I believe they can also use Eagle design files directly, but I use diptrace. For me right now OSHPARK works great. Reasonable turnaround and first class mail took 2 days (free)

What I don't know is for international people, how well this works or if it would make more sense to order from someone else. Example Seeedstudio is cheaper: http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/?products_id=835 I have not used them, but have heard others have. I think for this size, for 5 of them it is $9.90+11+ (options for color, finish, ...) and they are shipped direct from China. Thought I might verify the price in a little bit. They have a different naming convention for their gerber layers.

Forgot to mention, I am currently using a beta update for Diptrace: http://www.diptrace.com/downloads/download-diptrace/
I think I read on their forum, that the released version can not read the new format... Can convert to their Ascii version and read back into released version if needed.

For the most part I don't do anything with Gerber files. I do however use a free version of viewmate (http://www.pentalogix.com/viewmate.php) to look at the gerbers with. It also has some code to check out the gerber against a set of rules. I usually double check my output with this, before I produce a board.

There were earlier versions of diptrace that sometimes during the gerber production would round up or down and I did not have the clearances needed. So I check now. Other than it likes to complain about the silk, there are 4 warnings on soldermask for transistor (which maybe I should have mucked with pattern template for). It is too late for me to do this for my build, but maybe I should do it now and update the zip files.

Did an update that moved the transister pads a little farther apart, which I think is a good thing as I had to pull pretty hard to get the pins through the first time... Ran through the test program and it removed the 4 warnings. May now set up a version of this for Seeedstudio

Edit: But what I don't know about Seeedstudio is they want an additional file: Drill Drawing: pcbname.TXT
Not sure what this one is or how to generate from diptrace.

Re: PhantomX using a Teensy 3.1

Just sort of an FYI - I made minor mod to file (one of the mounting holes was off by 5mil), Also made a copy of the drill file (.xln -> .txt) as this is the name that Seeedstudio uses.

For the fun of it, I also ordered 5 from them as I am curious about how well they work.
The price from them is $20.90 plus $10.84 for shipping. If you order $50 I believe shipping is free anywhere... But may take weeks to arrive. So their price is a little cheaper for 5 ($31.74) versus 3 from OSH Park ($34.65).

    Thanks for the update Kurt!
I think I'll wait placing the order until you've done some hands on testing. Just to be sure all is ok.

Sounds like a good idea. I need to stop playing with Diptrace  I know that LinuxGuy wanted Arduino Shield capabilities, so I thought I would try to lay one out with it.

Right now, The board is 3"x2.7". Could maybe squeeze the height down to 2.6...
In 3d here, the bright yellow connectors are for shields. I have it backwards from normal boards as to make it easy to route the digital signals at the bottom. Bottom 3 pin connectors are the digital. The ones on the outside on Right are the standard analog, plus some additional analog. 2nd row has most of the pins from the bottom of the Teensy. The one on the Third row are the Analog only (3.3v only) IO pins. Stiall have speaker, 5v and 3.3v regulators All of the optional jumpers are on the 2x5 just right of the Teensy. Added one switch and one led...

Not sure if anyone would be interested in this type of layout? I still need to add some labels and the like if I go any farther.

As per some requests up on Lynxmotion, I did a few updates to the last version:

Still not sure I will fabricate any of these myself, but just in case, here is also a zip file with all of the gerber/drill files. I ran them also through viewmate program to make sure it did not find any errors as well. It also includes a sub-directory with Diptrace (beta) files as well as excel parts list with part numbers from Digikey

That's an Excellion drill file. It's very similar to plain G-code, with a list of drill diameters up front.
Here's an example from a board of mine:

Re: PhantomX using a Teensy 3.1

    Thanks,

I finally figured out it is the same file (I am pretty sure) that Osh Park wanted named <Board Name>.xln

Another thing I wondered about is has anyone played much with having Seed Studio actually assemble the boards for them. If so did you restrict yourself to only/mainly using parts from their Open Parts Library (http://www.seeedstudio.com/wiki/Open_parts_library)?
For example if you wish to use a 1K resistor, your design should use an 0603 and are you restricted to only use those resistors. Example I want a voltage divider with something like 10K and 40K. They have 10K, but no 40K (actually 10K appears to be the largest...)
(Personally I don't like using 0603 as they are a pain to hand solder and I have had many go flying )

Again not sure if I will fabricate myself, but I now a few others who are interested.

    Thanks again

Re: PhantomX using a Teensy 3.1

I have used them for the Onyx Fire II (gun control) boards. I had to re-design my board for their OPL library -- if you want just a few copies, they will not mount any non-OPL parts. I ended up having to mount Dynamixel connectors, power MOSFETs, and TVS diode myself as they didn't have suitable parts in the OPL. Also, I had to use multiple resistors for some dividers, which made the board bigger.
So, the question is really for you: What's more important? Getting everything exactly like you want it, or having someone else do it for you?
If you use their fabrication service (100+ boards) then they can source and mount parts that are not part of the OPL.
