    Hi everyone

    I have a project which I wanna work on, and any possible help would be much appreciated, it's about building a subsystem for a fire detection and extinguishing robot!

    Is the fire a candle flame, or something big?
    For small candles (popular in robot challenges,) a small air pump or fan can be used.
    Also, water squirt bottles.

    Do you want detection to be heat based, particulate based, vision based, or what?
    Perhaps a PixieCam with the Thermopile can be used to detect fire on a heat basis, with enough resolution to base navigation off of?

    Also, what is the goal of your project? Who is the customer? What problem are you solving for them?

    The fire is candle!
    And the project is for academic purposes,
    Do you have any idea of how could I interface a IR sensor, with PIC.?

    Yes:

    1) Find what interface the IR sensor is using. (Analog, I2C, UART, SPI, etc) (Consult the data sheet of the sensor)
    2) Choose a PIC which has a peripheral appropriate to that interface. (Consult the data sheet of the PIC)
    3) Write code to use that peripheral to talk to that sensor.

    easy interface to just about anything (I2C for control, SPI for transferring the image)...easy to grab an image, threshold it, and find the flame, which will be -very- noticeable, it will likely be the only saturated pixels.

    ive used that camera core on other things, and it works great...been looking at adding this specific version to my 'bot (mainly to do an auto-pursue on random living things)

    Thanks for the link! I hadn't thought to look at digikey (yeah, kicking myself), but at least that now gives two options.. Buy camera, socket, and breakout & solder socket yourself and save $130, or not. Is that socket no-lead or gullwing? The compatible molex socket looks like it's basically like a QFN package...kinda a PITA for DIY soldering for those who haven't done such work.
