DIY Hacked Wall-E Toy

I was at the store the other day, and i came across this Disney Wall-E toy.. It doesn't move, but it's arms and head were animated by a single motor through a gear set. The thing did speak random gibberish.. End result was an annoying plastic toy.... A disgrace to Wall-E

So i took it apart last night and had a look at it... Planned where i could fit some servo's, Sharp IR sensor and my custom pic board.

Today I ran down to HVWTech (i'm fortenate enough to live in the same city as their head office ) and i purchased the items Wall-E needed to LIVE!

I also modified the circuit that the toy came with. So i can trigger the sounds from my pic. I even cut the board in half to remove useless circuits lol ..

Here are the parts i used..
- 2 GWS Nano servos
- 2 modified parallex servos
- 1 GWS regular servo
- 18F4685 microcontroller @ 20 mhz
- 1 Sharp IR Distance sensor
- My custom 40 pin PIC board
- Code written in C
- Lots of melting plastic
- Took 7 Hours to build and program

I don't know how to post a youtube video directly in here with ubb... So here is a link to the full set of pics and video: http://atomic.speculation.org/Graphics/2008-10-07%20Calgary%20Wall-E%20Robot%20Part%202/

Additionally, here is a link directly to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDodQwu1slM

Here is the second video that shows a lot more of his personality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGo3iVMx6GE

Video of his new head tilting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbxwiWqHWoI

And here are a few photos...

What it was..

Servos drive the wheels now

My pic board and a li-on battery

Parts all tucked away

Look'n good

Sweet... I picked up one of these Wall-es back in July, opened it up, but haven't actually gotten around to hacking it

Nice work

Re: Wall-E

Commented and Rated over on YouTube. NICE hack! That's what Disney's toy should have been!

+Rep for the combination of K9 and Wall-E.

Re: Wall-E

That is the Wall-E Interactive, I am waiting for the Wall-e Ultimate, It stands 16" tall and does just about everything. GWJax sent me this link today from ToysRus, http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...ductId=2882455

Nice hack by the way.
